Change is afoot in the way National Plant Collections are awarded, with more input earlier from the Plant Conservation Committee and more focus from the applicant on why they want to have a Collection. So we are rolling out a programme of training for the Collections Coordinators in the local groups – starting with the South West.
Montecute was a convenient location and Edna booked the skittle alley at the back of the Phelipe Arms for our session.
A little improvisation was required to produce a stand for the flip charts, but with two tables and some sticky plasters from Mercy’s kit bag – we fashioned a very sturdy easel.
The session was designed with practical exercises to facilitate the learning – Rosie studies a plant list with a view to commenting on its usefulness
and Martin listens to Beverley explaining her opinion of a new proposal.
We finished in time for a quick look around the nearby NT Montacute House and Gardens.
We will be doing sessions in Birmingham and London in September and covering the rest of the country as soon as possible.
