Winter warmth in Wimborne

The activity and commitment of our local groups and our members is simply wonderful to see in action.  On a recent visit to East Dorset’s AGM, the meeting room in the Allendale Centre in Wimborne was buzzing with the warmth of animated chat.  There was plenty to see including a plant sale full of variety,

an informative display of autumn colours,

and a vibrant display of plants still in flower in members’ gardens.

Garden items and second-hand gardening books were for sale including the popular Plant Heritage Shopper bags.  There was also a display of garden designs, and raffle prizes to win.  All of this is only possible because of our members passion for plants.

Diana Guy, Chairman of the East Dorset group, gave an informative talk on ‘A tale of two Gardens’ highlighting the issues involved in moving beloved plants, and establishing the soil of a new garden using numerous bags of mushroom compost.  Changing a piece of land into a delightful garden in a relatively short space of time is simply inspirational.

As there was so much to see and chat about I did not get around to buying plants until the last moment, and I wish I had bought more…..
