Had a lovely visit to Michael McIlmurray’s Maxillaria collection last week- in the entertaining company of Phil Seaton and Tim Marks from Kew. Apart from admiring Michael’s plants and his outstanding records we were discussing how to proceed with Plant Heritage’s involvement with Orchid Seed Stores for Sustainable Use. If you have a look at the link, I think you will agree that it is a really good project, and we are all quite excited about the mutual gains in knowledge that can be made by working together.
Articles are planned for the Plant Heritage Journal and the NCH Newsletter for later in the year. If you do visit Michael, make sure you have a look at his drawings and photographs; they are stunning, and the sheer volume of work, dedication and care just glows from his collection.
