Jen Gooderham and her daughter Angela Houghton made a beeline for the Plant Heritage Marquee at RHS Tatton Park on the first day of the flower show. On sale are plants grown by the Cheshire PH group which are good quality, good value, often a bit unusual, but always “grown with love” said Jen. Volunteers worked hard all day selling plants and giving advice and yet the stall never looked empty. Stocks of plants were held outside and more will be brought in later in the week to ensure a fantastic choice of interesting plants for visitors throughout the show.
7 National Collection Holders had contributed to the central display which was awarded a Silver Gilt Medal by the RHS.
Collections represented were;
Acanthus – Hillview Hardy Plants; Agapanthus – Steve Hickman; Euphorbia – Don Witton; Hosta – Mickfield Hostas; Rhodohypoxis – Ward Alpines; Sarracenia – Paul Gardner; Solenostemon – Liverpool City Council
I came back from the show with a couple of plants from the Cheshire group stall and some Euphorbia which Don assures me will not ‘walk’. I hope to see his Collection next spring which is housed on his allotment. And the next time I am passing Barnsley I will be calling in to see Steve for some Agapanthus ‘Radiant Star’.
