Here are some pictures from the AGM, the weather was not particularly kind, but a good time was had by all, the food was lovely and the company superb.
Excellent speakers kept everyone entertained in the morning on a variety of subjects from the Collections at Wakehurst Place through pests and diseases to sweet peas. We also had stands from Collection Holders in the county: Martin Carree from Peasmarsh Place (Viscount Devonport) brought a lovely selection of foliage; Steve Harding from Heaselands (Sir Richard Kleinwort) brought more photos than seemed humanly possible; Andrew Gaunt brought some fantastic photos (and some plants) from his Hedychium collection; Roger was launching his new book (see sweet pea link above) and selling seeds.
There were also displays of a potential Myrtaceae collection, Plant Heritage merchandise, more pests & diseases, and some material from Plumpton College.
The visits in the afternoon were to Arundel Castle (shown in a previous post), Birchfield Nursery, and Sussex Praries, which is highly recommended, if a little windswept that day!
The talk after the gala dinner was from Graham Spencer of Plants For Europe who kindly stepped in when the group were let down at the last minute.
Many thanks to the Sussex Group and the local collection holders for working so hard to put this on. An effort above and beyond the call of duty!
